The subject matter on communion has not yet being properly understood for there are conflicts within the body of Christ on what the communion actually is and the sect of people entitled to it.
The word communion is first used in 1Cor 10:16 which is ‘koinonia‘ in the Greek rendition and means ‘intercourse, intimacy, joint participation‘.
This is what it means to take in the communion. It is the intercourse between man and divinity. Apostle Joshua Selman knowing this, uses koinonia which he depicts as an intercourse between man and divinity in his ministry.
1Corrinthians 10:16 KJV The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
The Apostle Paul defines this communion as a cup.. You should understand that there are lots of cups in the scriptures. We have the cup of blessing, cup of sanctification, cup of judgement, etc. All these cups have their meanings.
And he says this communion is THE CUP OF BLESSING.
The communion is also called THE CUP OF THE LORD which is seen in 1Cor 10:21.
1Corrinthians 10:21 KJV Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
Why is it so?
Because the Lord Jesus initiated this.Again, I would like for you to know that THE LAST SUPPER is not the same as THE LORD’S SUPPER.
Scripture distinguishes them in Luke 22:20; it was after supper that the Lord took a cup…
Luke 22:20 KJV Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
The Last supper is the last meal the Lord Jesus ate with his disciples.
The Lord’s supper is the communion which he blessed and gave to the disciples. This is the reason why Paul the Apostle also calls the communion; THE LORD’S CUP.
From 1Cor 10:16, we see that this communion comprises of the BLOOD and BODY OF CHRIST.
Do you know that the Lord Jesus took the blood alone without the body? This he did continually.
The word of God lays credence to this truth in Leviticus 17:11 that THE LIFE OF THE FLESH IS IN THE BLOOD…
Leveticus 17:11 KJV For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
For this cause, Jesus said in John 10:10 that HE CAME TO GIVE LIFE (zoe – the God kind of life) and even more abundantly.
So the question is, how can one give life when you don’t take in life? (for life is in the blood). How can you give abundant life when you don’t drink blood in abundance.
No wonder when he was giving them the communion after supper, he took the blood only and said; HENCEFORTH, I WILL NOT DRINK THIS WINE AGAIN – which speaks of the blood in Matthew 26v29.
Matthew 26:29 KJV But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
This asserts that he was drinking the blood continually to give abundant life.
Brethren, the communion is life. The Christ life is in the blood.
JESUS WAS A DRINKER OF BLOOD, SO MUST WE.
The devil and his cohorts; vampires and witches are conscious of this very truth. For they know that, THE LIFE OF A SOUL IS IN THE BLOOD. Thus, they suck the blood of a soul to shrink it’s life and to gain more energy for their activities and elevation (promotion). Scripture describes a cup called the Cup of Devils in 1Cor10:21.
1Corrinthians 10:21 KJV Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
This will lead me in talking about how that even an infant is to drink the communion for Scripture says in 1cor 10:21 that you cannot drink the Lord’s cup and that of devils.
With this revelation of The Zoe life in the blood, a well known minister of the gospel in Ghana after a test, was confirmed HIV negative though his wife had HIV/AIDS. You don’t know someone’s revelation.
Is the communion for a selected few? No
It must be understood that, if it’s only on the matter of forgiveness Jesus wouldn’t have come. Hebrew 9:13 bears witness.
Hebrews 9:13 KJV For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
On the matter of forgiveness, the fathers of old were using animal sacrifices for atonement of sins and it was approved. So this could have been done in our days also. But what makes Jesus’ blood different from the blood of the animals was that HIS BLOOD HANDLED THE SIN ONCE unlike the animal sacrifices.
In the work of Jesus on earth, the least has to do with the forgiveness of sins. Am not saying he did not come to handle sin but am saying he coming to earth by reason of his blood did a lot of things and not only sin.
What did the blood do?
- Remission of sin which is seen in Matthew 26:28. It handles sin. What sin can’t the blood handle? Scripture says in 1John 2:2 that the blood handled the sins of the whole world. Is your sin greater than the blood? Is your sin greater than that of the whole world?
So if you sin, the best remedy is to go for the blood for it cleanses sin. The communion is not only for those who are baptized or confirmed, but for all. - The Blood draws us closer to God. Eph 2:13.
Are you far away from God, then the remedy is the blood. It draws us closer to God. It is by this that we gain access to the very secrets of God for the closer we get, the more we know him. - The Blood was used in purchasing the Church. Acts 20:28
This is the reality of the blood and what it did.
It wasn’t only shed for the forgiveness of sin.
