‘Man of God’ as a title is a high office accorded to very few people in scriptures. A man of God is a person who operates at a unique height in the realms of the spirit. Not everyone is and can be called a man of God.
2Timothy 3:17 KJV That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
From the above scripture, the man of God is one who is perfect and thoroughly furnished unto good works. Thus people accorded this honour in scripture are found to be proven and seasoned men who are completely equipped in every good work purposed to accomplish the vision of God in their dispensation.
The early fathers having and knowing the gravity of such honour were careful how they referred to themselves. They often referred to themselves only as either ‘SERVANTS OF GOD’ and or ‘SERVANTS OF THE LORD JESUS’.
Romans and Philippians asserts this:
Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
Philippians 1:1 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
James 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
They were very careful with their words. Time will not permit me to speak on the difference of ‘SERVANTS OF GOD AND SERVANTS OF THE LORD JESUS’ for they are not the same. To make it easier for you to understand the difference, ‘ANY MAN, SERVING THE LORD IS A SERVANT OF GOD whilst anyone in the fivefold ministry is A SERVANT OF THE LORD JESUS’. Hope this will help clarify matters a little. .
The early APOSTLES chose their words rightly because they understood Job 6:25, where the Prophet Job spoke on how one is to engage in right words. And also, the early APOSTLES were very much aware of the weight associated with this designation, ‘MAN OF GOD’.
It’s saddening to see how today’s title crazed generation of men, accord themselves titles in ignorance, without ‘corresponding proven works’, having not considered the reality of their state in the spirit. DO YOU EVEN KNOW YOUR ESTATE IN THE SPIRIT?

Hebrews 5:4 KJV And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
This honour is only given by God. And by the works and proofs of which I will soon speak of, men of understanding shall honour you with that title.
Man of God is not a light matter to say the least. It’s a place of great responsibility and authority in the spirit realm.
Now let’s dive into the scriptures concerning men who were prominent people and accorded that title, ‘MAN OF GOD’ with evident proof.
PROOF 1:
THE MAN OF GOD is one who has gained mastery over the elements of creation. They were sold out to accomplish extraordinary feats in their generation and were well equipped unto all good works ,in their mastery of nature’s course and elements.
In Deuteronomy 33:1 and 2kings 1:10, we see MOSES and ELIJAH honoured with that title. Moses the man of God concerning his exploits in Egypt, controlled the elements of creation by changing water into blood, caused gnats and locusts to appear through the dust, struck the Egyptians with boils and even made darkness cover their land through his control of the circuit of the sun.
Remember that in one of the verses of Acts of the Apostles it was said of Moses to be a ‘learned man in all the wisdom of the Egyptians’ hence by this he would know of the elements and their operation.
Elijah the man of God invoked fire from Heaven during a competition between him and 450 prophets of Baal which they failed. 1kings 18 prove these feats.
He as well brazenly called down fire from Heaven to consume the king’s captain and troops. 2kings 2:1 asserts it. He again locked the heavens from giving rain for seven years. He fully had a perfect understanding of the elements even fire and water.
So from these, hope you now know why scripture calls them MEN OF GOD.
HENCE TO BE A MAN OF GOD U SHOULD GAIN MASTERY OVER THE ELEMENTS EVEN THE WIND, WATER, FIRE AND EARTH.
Someone might say but these elements according to Galatians 4:9 are “weak and beggarly” and as a result can be used by anyone. The fact that you have gained complete understanding and mastery over the elements of creation is not enough proof. This brings me to the 2nd evident proof.
PROOF 2:
The word of God in the mouth of the man of God is effective, producing manifest results. We see this in the life of a man of God called Samuel.
1Samuel 9:6 KJV And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can shew us our way that we should go.
He was also the few accorded with that title MAN OF GOD because he never spoke idle words as seen in the above scriptures. MEN OF GOD thus speak fruitful words. They stand as the mouthpieces of God in the earth. HENCE the Lord himself ensures the fulfilment of whatever word they declare like in 1Samuel 3:19.
Even when Samuel is just playing and says just a word the Lord shall ensure its fulfilment. To be called a man of God, the word of God in the mouth of the man of God is effective producing manifest results.
PROOF 3:
A man of God is one who shows gravity and is well versed in biblical and secular knowledge and bewilders the world with mighty deeds as well.
Acts 7:22
And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
Moses the man of God was well versed in secular knowledge, that is to say that he didn’t only concern himself with the word but also had knowledge of the world (secular). It’s also d reason why we go to school to be equipped with worldly knowledge.
Not only that but then in the mouth of the man of God is the counsel of God that solves plaguing problems of the men in his day because HE IS PERFECT (FURNISHED) unto ALL GOOD WORKS.
That was the testimony of the man of God Elisha for he multiplied the oil of the widow who was under the oppression of her creditors, so as to pay them and be sustained on the rest of the proceeds with her sons. 2kings 4:2,7 asserts it.
PROOF 4:
The man of God is one who flees the love of money. Believers are to flee from firstly fornication whilst the Man of God as a believer has an added responsibility to flee from money.
1Timothy 6:10-11
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But thou, “O man of God, flee these things;” and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Gehazi failed to qualify to the place of being a man of God. Elisha was not enticed by the money and riches of Naaman as seen in 2kings 5:20.
Flee from money and follow after ‘RIGHTEOUSNESS, GODLINESS, FAITH, LOVE, PATIENCE, MEEKNESS’. Even these five(5) listed things, you have not fully grasped knowledge into them and yet you accord yourself with that title. Now the word, ‘love’ as used in the phrase “love of money” is ‘philos’ in Greek which is the kind of love between friends. I would like for you to understand that we have kinds of love according to the Greek definitions, (agape, eros and philos) etc.
So all what the writer meant was that as a man of God don’t befriend money. Simply put, don’t make money your friend. Coveteousness is what scripture meant. In Proverbs we see this same issue of money.
Proverbs 28:16
The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.
One benefit as a man of God to flee from coveteousness is to “prolong your days” and be a blessing to many.

PROOF 5
Men of God are not those who seek fame. There are men of God in the scriptures who are well spoken of and eulogized but fall under unnamed personalities in the Bible.
2kings 23:16-17
16 And as Josiah turned himself, he spied the sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.
17 Then he said, What title is that that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Bethel.
1Samuel 2:27
And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh’s house?
These men of God were unnamed in the Bible but we see from the above scriptures that they didn’t seek for fame.
We are in a generation in which a lot of people in the work of the ministry are seeking for fame but a man of God is also one who is not into how famous he is but is inclined with the fulfilment of Divine mandate.
We are not seeking for fame. We understand by grace that there is such thing as A PROPHETIC PROGRESS. Am not preaching Christ out of contention as Paul says. Preaching has now become competition.
Philippians 1:16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
We are not preaching to be famous. Wherever the gospel shall take me is where I go. If it’s fame, then you are disqualified.
You want to be famous for what? Don’t let that be in you, just minister the word.
I may even be known on earth but unknown in the heavenlies.
We might not be known to people by this act and work you call petty but in the heavenlies we might be known like what FAther ABRAHAM said to the rich man in Hades, “they have Moses and the others”.
Luke 16:28 asserts it:
I appreciate the little am doing. Remember we are all the body of Christ. In the physical body, certain parts are seen and others unseen. Do not consent to being fame brethren, ‘focus on the completion of the assignment’.
PROOF 6:
Men of God receive definite directions from God which upon relaying to the people results in deliverance, progress and preservation of life.
2kings 8:1-2
1 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.
2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
1kings 12:22-24
22 But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
23 Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,
24 Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.
The man of God Shemaiah also received definite direction from God to deliver to Rehoboam
Nehemiah 12:24
24 And the chief of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brethren over against them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, ward over against ward.
David was also called a man of God because he so knew the present operations of God concerning the changeover from tabernacle worship to temple worship. Nehemiah 12:24 and 36 asserts it.
BRETHREN, not all men addressed by their fellow men on earth per this title are recognized truly as MEN OF GOD in the Heavens.
It takes a man with authority, displaying in-depth knowledge and understanding of scripture , mighty in words and deeds, demonstrating mastery and not enticed by riches to be a man of God.
Walk in this reality and consciousness.
